BOOMF! Brass Band is a collection of musicians from the San Diego area who love funk, soul, and bluesy music. The band is made up of 7 brass musicians and 3 rhythm section players in the following configuration: 3 trumpets, French horn, trombone, bass trombone, tuba, guitar, keys, and drums.  Occasionally there are vocals and we bring in other artists to play with us. See our Band Member bios page for more on the band members. So far, this has been a studio project, though we are looking to play live soon. We are particularly interested in promoting our debut album Intergalactic Rainbow Ice-Cream Sandwich at a cd-release concert but current world events have stymied our plans. Hopefully, we’ll do it soon!

Many of the band members are also performers in The Chameleons, the house brass band at the world famous San Diego Zoo. You can check out that band’s album It’s Time in our store: the merch page. Most of us Boomf-ers have been performing together in brass bands at theme parks and for corporate events since the early 90’s. This loose conglomeration of brass musicians started out performing at SeaWorld of California in the Beach Band. Members went on to reform groups of various names like Brass Roots, Bud Light Bitchin’ Brass Band, Jingle Brass, and Maritime Wind Corps - some of the guys also currently perform with Westwind Brass. The main rhythm section is from a great local corporate band The Mighty Untouchables.

Once The Chameleons were formed we started spending some time in the studio. After that first album, It’s Time, we decided to add guitar and keyboards and have Terence Cooper, our French-hornist, do some singing. We loved the resulting sound so much we kept coming back for more sessions. Finally, it got to the point where we had to release an album to prove to our wives that we really were working!

Hopefully, this is the start of much more from BOOMF! We love this music and playing and hanging together and we’re grateful for the chance to share our artform with you.
